Acoustic characterisation of towing tanks

چکیده
Large water tanks known as towing tanks, wave basins and cavitation tunnels, are used to determine the performance of ships, boats submarines at model-scale. They may also be for noise measurements but suffer from effects reverberation, which makes it difficult capture free field conditions necessary complete characterisation noise. This paper describes an adapted Image Source Model its use understand these reverberation effects. It extends conventional by spherical reflection coefficients tank boundaries, in addition inclusion volumetric absorption. Validation is undertaken comparison with published transfer function made depressurized basin Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). The relative contribution response direct surface examined. found vary three frequency-scales (periodicities) resulting interactions axial modes.

Operational issues surrounding the use of towing tanks for performance quantification of marine current energy converters
Towing tanks are being utilised far more frequently for the performance quantification of Marine Current Energy Converters (MCECs) due to their relatively low cost and ease of use. In this paper a number of issues are addressed that arose during a series of experimental campaigns investigating the performance of both static and dynamic MCEC models. These include the lack of ambient turbulence, ...
متن کاملTowing the line
Fish receive much of their sensory information — used, for example, to guide their stunning schooling behaviour — from a particular sensory organ system, the lateral line. Hair cells sitting in neuromast organs that are scattered along the flank of the fish sense water movements, much as hair cells in our inner ear sense air movements. The lateral line provides the fish with information about m...
متن کاملThe Characterisation, Separation and Transcription of Complex Acoustic Signals
Traditional approaches to sound recognition perform poorly in the presence of background noise or multiple simultaneous signals. This research project aims to tackle these difficulties, thus addressing some of the unsolved problems common to many acoustic processing tasks. Although in the early stages, the project is proceeding on two fronts: music transcription and speech recognition.
متن کاملAcoustic characterisation of liquid foams with an impedance tube.
Acoustic measurements provide convenient non-invasive means for the characterisation of materials. We show here for the first time how a commercial impedance tube can be used to provide accurate measurements of the velocity and attenuation of acoustic waves in liquid foams, as well as their effective "acoustic" density, over the 0.5-6kHz frequency range. We demonstrate this using two types of l...
